Serving our World
Missions and Stewardship
After we say, “I believe.”we pledge to use our gifts of time, talent and treasure that God has given us, to do the work God is calling us to do. Our church has a number of missions and projects to realize this pledge. We also partner with other community organizations in support of their work that fulfills this vision.
The Beloved Community
The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment includes:
-
Truth-telling: Telling the truth about our churches and race
-
Proclamation: Proclaiming the dream of Beloved Community
-
Formation: Practicing Jesus’ way of Healing Love
-
Justice: Repairing the breach in society and institutions

Helping the Homeless
Socks for Street People is a ministry of our Deacon that directly provides kits for people living on the street that include toothpaste and brush, soap, shampoo, deodorant, sanitary products and clean socks. If the individual has a cell phone, he texts to them his own phone number. Some, responding to the simple gift of being “seen,” will keep in touch.
Feeding the Needy
Weekly food donations from parishioners go to community partners including Operation Attack and Mercy Keepers to help feed the needy.
Support for Haiti
St. Augustine’s parishioners make ongoing donations to Village of Hope, providing many critical educational and health services to the Ganthier community. Our contributions are designated for the Child Development and Nutrition Program in support of children 0-12 as well as pregnant and breast-feeding women.
Angel Tree
St. Augustine's partners with Angel Tree, a program of Prison Fellowship Ministries. Our parishioners sponsor and deliver Christmas gifts for children with incarcerated parents. Our Episcopal Church Women's group provides a special gift card to each caregiver to help with additional holiday expenses.
Faith and Action for Strength Together
FAST is a grassroots, justice ministry network comprised of 50 religious congregations in Pinellas County working to identify root causes of community problems and organizing to act on these problems. St. Augustine’s invests 1% of our annual budget in this ministry and many parishioners are indidual members. Learn more at fast-pinellas.org.
Pinellas Remembers
The Community Remembrance Project Coalition in Pinellas County got its start at St. Augustine’s during a breakfast discussion and is now made up of 80 community organizations and individuals, Initially, the group's goal was to erect a historical marker at the site of the 1914 John Evans lynching. That accomplished, the group (renamed Pinellas Remembers) maintains the marker and educates the community about its difficult past.
ASALH
Several members of St. Augustine’s are active in the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, Inc. which provides educational presentations, documentaries, and seminars on Black History and Culture. Our Vestry made an initial sponsorship donation to the ASALH Freedom School for young people which in 2024 met at our church.
